A PICTURE TELLS A THOUSAND BODIES / 2023

A Picture Tells a Thousand Bodies is an illustrative display typeface that assembles like a puzzle: when every glyph is set side-by-side, the negative space reveals a single, continuous silhouette of a woman’s body. The concept grew from deep research into body-dysmorphia studies & first-person interviews; the full figure embodies the collective pressure to conform, while each letter, when broken apart and used in real words, reclaims its own shape, celebrating individuality.

The typeface debuts inside a companion zine of the same name. The pages pair concise essays on body image with anonymous testimonials & collages built from minimalist shapes, abstract marks, & magazine cut-outs that have been “de-influenced” to strip away commercial gloss. Together, the type & the zine invite readers to question idealised forms & see beauty in fragments, imperfections, & personal narratives.
